Early reading and counting skills are slowly improving in children starting their education at public schools in WA, results from pre-primary entry tests have revealed.


No one disputes that “more support” is needed for learners who speak English as a second language when they enter an English-medium  formal learning environment. Where more needs to be done is in the area that Peter Titmanis identifies in this article when he points out that “Parents and families should never underestimate the important role they have to play as their children’s first teachers, right from the time children are born,”
