Whose idea was that?

My young son just discovered the wonder and potential of the telephone. This discovery enables him to stay in touch with his friends, discussing the latest in Pokemon card and giving insight on how to navigate through the pitfalls in a computer game.

It occurred to me that he’s been spending quite a lot of time talking to his buddies and I felt the need to let him know that a telephone costs. A telephone call costs – it costs money.

“What?”, he blurted out with shock and utter surprise. “You have to pay to talk to people? It’s just a conversation!” Yes, I replied, you have to pay when making calls to other people?

“Who came up with that idea?” he probed.
