Ideas for Sustainable Development

With “ideas” I do not mean clever solutions or smart strategies expressed in that all too familiar “I’ve got an idea.” I rather mean that which Stephen Covey identifies as “natural laws in the human dimension that are just as real, as unchanging … as laws such ar gravity.” Similarly, the Swede, Dr Karl-Henrik Robert, founder of The Natural Step, in his address at the “Creating a Sustainable Dublin Region Conference”  end of last year hinted at the pivotal importance of “non-negotiables” in addressing the complexities connected to sustainability in our world.

After looking and listening to Dr Robert’s address (worth every 1 of the 52minutes) I wondered just how different schooling should and could be if we engage our learners in habitually sharpening the minds around these kinds of ideas.
